This handmade piece is stamped "Peru"

It's not too often I come across a half plate daguerreotype--4 1/4" x 5 1/2"--this one much tarnished

with one small stain to the right corner of the upper left darn and one small stain to the top border

Wear to the bottom corners and a tiny tear along the right edge

especially because of the way the viewer is implicated

These were done by a young John Mosher in 1939, in third grade, and feel to me as if channeling both Pennsylvania hex stars and Froebel kindergarten cut paper designs but rendered with the immediacy of hard pressed crayon!
